Sensor-integrated clamping device for machining of AM components

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Additive manufacturing processes, such as Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), provide a high degree of design freedom enabling, for example, the manufacturing of load-optimized lightweight structures. However, this design flexibility is challenging with respect to the required post-processing, e.g., by machining operations. In particular, the selection of a suitable clamping configuration is essential to avoid shape deviations due to too high clamping forces. In this paper, an approach for monitoring the load during milling of an additively manufactured component is presented, in which in-process force measurements with a sensor-integrated clamping device are used.
