Experimental and numerical study on the impact behaviour of single-steel-plate-concrete composite structures

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Single steel-plate concrete composite (SSC) structures possess excellent mechanical properties and have been applied in various types of engineering projects. The rear steel plates adopted in SSC structures can effectively reduce the structural design thickness. In this research, a total of six impact experiments were designed and conducted on SSC panel elements. These experiments primarily focused on the effects of different local connection methods, tie bar ratios, panel thickness , and stiffeners. The failure modes and dynamic response characteristics of the specimens were revealed, and the damage distribution and deformation features were analysed. A finite element model was then developed to assess the impact resistance of SSC panel elements. Compared with the impact experimental results, the accuracy of the finite element model was validated. For panel elements with tie bars interlocked with J-shaped connectors (TBIJC), parametric analysis was then carried out, and an assessment method for the critical perforating speed was proposed.
