Abstract: Acoustically optimized working environments: Strategies to increase productivity, comfort and attractiveness In open office structures, noise is still a widespread source of dissatisfaction, annoyance, disruption and stress. The well-documented effects of noise in research, such as the “irrelevant speech effect”, i.e. the disruption of cognitive performance due to irrelevant background speech, can be found in practice as central challenges of acoustic design. Five aspects are presented below that should definitely be considered when planning and optimizing acoustics – for greater satisfaction, well-being and productivity in the office.
