Abstract: Oxidative stress during the cold storage phase of liver preservation is the leading cause of tissue damage and organ failure, which inevitably impacts liver viability post-transplant and patients' subsequent recovery. Given this, the development of new technologies to increase the antioxidative protection of the liver in cold storage is crucial. We have recently set up a platform for liver cold storage assisted by magnetic fields to investigate how it affects liver health. Results show that static magnetic fields amplify the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase in liver tissue. Our static magnetic-field-based liver-preservation platform is shown to effectively counterbalance free radicals in liver tissue, reducing oxidative damage and enhancing the overall quality of liver preservation. This study provides innovative strategies for refining liver-preservation methods and promises to support pivotal medical practices such as liver transplantation in the future.
