Dynamic analysis of porous functionally graded plates

Type: article
Abstract: This study investigates the natural frequency behavior of porous functionally graded (FG) plates using a novel shape function to model material gradation and porosity. The research employs higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) to account for material property variations across the thickness of the plate, modeled using power-law distributions. A porosity model is introduced to evaluate the effects of voids and porosity distribution on the mechanical properties of the FG plates. The analytical solutions for simply supported porous functionally graded (FG) plates are derived using the Navier solution method, which simplifies the complex boundary conditions and provides accurate results. Several key parameters, including the power-law index, side-to-thickness ratio, aspect ratio, and porosity level, are studied to understand their impact on the natural frequency of FG plates. The findings demonstrate that the innovative shape function captures the vibrational characteristics of porous functionally graded ( FG) plates with high accuracy. This comprehensive analysis offers valuable insights for engineers and designers, providing guidance on optimizing FG plate structures for various engineering applications. By understanding the role of material gradation, porosity, and geometric factors, this work contributes to the design of advanced FG materials, which are critical in industries where vibrational performance and structural integrity are essential.
