Abstract: This paper presents an interpretation of the work of Odo Marquard, exponent of skeptical hermeneutics, based on the idea of discipline that is implicit in a strong consideration of historical truth and the claim to meaning. It is therefore a study of political philosophy focused on the problems that the philosophy of history has raised in contemporary hermeneutics. After addressing the question of truthfulness in the historical field, I argue that, for political coexistence, it is fundamental to de-imperialize history and to offer a historical practice detached from a notion of “Truth” that sweeps away political discussion.
