Regulation of Plant Hormones Under Abiotic Stress Conditions in Plants

Year: 2024
Type: other
Abstract: Under both ideal and challenging environments, phytohormones (PHs) are crucial to regulating an assortment of functional and natural processes that control plant development and productivity. Because they activate signaling pathways, the interplay of various PHs is vital to plant survival in difficult conditions. Hormonal cross-regulation sets off a chain of events that fine-tunes the physiological functions in plant design and aids in the development of crops in less-than-ideal growth conditions. Plant hormones are signaling substances that control important elements of growth, development, and reactions to environmental stress. Drought, salinity, heat, cold, and flooding are a few examples of abiotic factors that significantly impact plant development and survival. Complex sensing, signaling, and stress response mechanisms are needed to adapt and tolerate such pressures. In the current chapter, we address recent developments in our understanding of how several plant hormones regulate plant responses to abiotic stress and highlight instances of hormonal interaction with abiotic stress signaling. The discussion includes abscisic acid, auxin, brassinosteroids, cytokinins, ethylene, and gibberellins as plant hormones that mediate control mechanisms and stress reactions. The key mechanisms for stress detection, signal transduction, and plant adaptation were covered in this chapter, with special emphasis on the biochemical, biological, and inherited events related to abiotic stress responses.
