Taxonomy of Korean Scopaeus Erichson (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Paederinae)

Abstract: A taxonomic study of Korean Scopaeus Erichson is presented. Nine species are recognized, six of which are new to the Korean fauna [ Scopaeus ( Scopaeus ) chinensis Frisch, Scopaeus ( Scopaeus ) complex Sharp, Scopaeus ( Scopaeus ) limbatus Kraatz, Scopaeus ( Scopaeus ) naomii Frisch, Scopaeus ( Scopaeus ) paliferus Frisch, and Scopaeus ( Scopaeus ) testaceus (Motschulsky)]. Scopaeus ( Scopaeus ) curraxoides is excluded from the Korean fauna. Detailed morphological characters support the validity of these species. A key, diagnoses, habitus photographs, and illustrations of diagnostic characters of Korean Scopaeus species are provided to facilitate identification.
