Abstract: Dowry is a prerequisite for marriage in Islamic Shari’a. It is absolutely obligatory on every husband to pay it. Through this, Islam has established the social, financial and familial security of every wife as well as her dignity. In Bangladesh, this imperative of Muslim marriage remains largely unaddressed due to ignorance and some blind protectionism. As a result, the rights accorded to wife by Islam are extremely undermined. Proper knowledge on the subject is absolutely essential to determine and pay the dower properly. Kepping in mind the appropriate directions to determine and pay the dower, this research work has been organized. This work employs qualitative method to accomplish the purpose. The author has focused on the views of classical and modern scholars along with the Qur’an and Sunnah. The article has substantiated that ignorance about dower among the people of Bangladesh has assumed a severe practical problem and It is essential to ensure proper religious education and public awareness to overcome this problem. Keywords : dowry, marriage, shariah, family, Bangladesh. সারসংক্ষেপ : মোহরানা ইসলামী শরীয়াতে বিবাহের পূর্বশর্ত। এটি আদায় করা প্রত্যেক স্বামীর উপর একান্তভাবে আবশ্যক। এর মাধ্যমে ইসলাম প্রত্যেক স্ত্রীর সামাজিক, আর্থিক ও পারিবারিক নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিতের পাশাপাশি তার সম্মান প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছে। বাংলাদেশে এ সম্পর্কে অজ্ঞতা এবং কিছু অন্ধ রক্ষাকবচের অজুহাতে মুসলিম বিবাহের এ আবশ্যিক বিষয়টি বেশিরভাগ অনাদায়ী থেকে যায়। এর ফলে স্ত্রীর ইসলাম প্রদত্ত অধিকার ক্ষুণœ হয়। মোহরানা সঠিকভাবে ধার্য্য ও আদায় করার জন্য এ বিষয়ে সঠিক জ্ঞানার্জন একান্ত প্রয়োজন। তাই মোহরানা ধার্য ও আদায়ের সঠিক দিকনির্দেশনাকে সামনে রেখেই আলোচ্য গবেষণাকর্মটি সাজানো হয়েছে। এ প্রবন্ধটি রচনার ক্ষেত্রে গুণাত্মক (য়ঁধষরঃরঃরাব) পদ্ধতি অনুসরণ করা হয়েছে। আলোচ্য প্রবন্ধে কুরআন-সুন্নাহর পাশাপাশি পূর্ববর্তী ও আধুনিক আলেমগণের মতামত তুলে ধরা হয়েছে। বক্ষ্যমাণ প্রবন্ধ থেকে প্রমাণিত যে, বাংলাদেশের জনসাধারণের মাঝে মোহরানা সম্পর্কে অজ্ঞতা একটি বাস্তব সমস্যায় পরিণত হয়েছে এবং এই সমস্যা থেকে উত্তরণের জন্য সঠিক ধর্মীয় জ্ঞানার্জন ও জনসচেতনতা তৈরী অত্যন্ত জরূরী। মূলশব্দ : মোহরানা, বিবাহ, শরীয়াহ, পরিবার, বাংলাদেশ।
