Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The objective of this proposal is to contribute to the inclusive education of future mathematics teachers, based on real needs. In the context of the learning unit Educational Trends, and based on the service learning methodology, the future mathematics teachers conducted a diagnosis of the academic needs of a student with visual impairment. These teachers created intervention alternatives as they implemented them and evaluated them. Results show that the future mathematics teachers raised awareness of diversity, became familiar with visual impairment, identified the principles of Didactics of Mathematics for the blind, as well as formulated practices that contributed to the learning of mathematics in students with visual impairment. In the end, teachers also designed resources to facilitate such learning. It is concluded that this proposal is the first scenario of the bachelor’s degree in Mathematics that integrates inclusion contents for the training of future Mathematics teachers. In addition, this proposal enhances the learning of mathematics in students with visual impairment and promotes a higher level of inclusion.
