Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Air pollution, caused by pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter, threatens human health, the environment, and the global economy. This study, conducted by students in the Chemistry undergraduate program at the Federal University of Campina Grande, aimed to raise awareness among students at a public school in the state of Paraíba about the causes and effects of air pollution and to promote sustainable practices on this topic. The interactive lecture was followed by a survey to assess students’ understanding. The results indicated a good general understanding of the impacts of pollution, but showed uncertainty about the role of transportation in reducing it. The study highlighted the importance of environmental education and lifestyle changes to combat air pollution, highlighting the need for educational actions and community engagement.
