Impact of TiO2 powder type on hydration and photocatalytic NOx degradation in cement paste
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Recent advancements in nanotechnology have sparked significant interest in the novel functionalities of cementitious materials incorporating nanomaterials. This study explores the effects of three types of TiO2 powder on the hydration and mechanical properties of cement paste and mortar. Additionally, the de-pollution characteristics of cement mortar containing different types of TiO2 powder were assessed based on NOx degradation, following ISO-22197-1 standards. The inclusion of nano-sized TiO2 powder in cement was observed to accelerate initial hydration reactions and enhance early compressive strength, with these properties varying according to the type and particle size of the TiO2 powder. Moreover, the de-pollution characteristics, as indicated by NOx degradation, were significantly influenced by the anatase-to-rutile ratio in the TiO2.
