Towards a federated global community of Diamond Open Access

Abstract: This discussion paper presents a comprehensive proposal for establishing a global research infrastructure dedicated to Diamond Open Access (OA). Diamond OA is characterized by scholarly communities leading and owning the content-related aspects of scholarly communication without charging fees to authors or readers. The proposed infrastructure, organized as a four-level federation, aims to strengthen the role of Diamond OA worldwide. The paper explores the background of current Diamond OA initiatives, highlighting the Latin American model and the significant findings of the OA Diamond Journals Study. The Action Plan for Diamond OA, a community-driven initiative, responds to the study’s recommendations and further supports the ecosystem.
