Abstract: This paper examines the profound influence of Kauṭilya’s Arthaśāstra on Viśākhadatta’s Mudrārākṣasa, highlighting how the latter reflects the political strategies, administrative insights, and espionage techniques prescribed by Kauṭilya. By analyzing key elements of Mudrārākṣasa, such as the downfall of the Nanda Dynasty and the intricate espionage system, this paper argues that Viśākhadatta’s work serves as a dramatic embodiment of Kauṭilya’s political wisdom. The discussion focuses on the practical application of Arthaśāstra’s principles within the narrative of Mudrārākṣasa, providing a comprehensive understanding of how ancient Indian statecraft and strategic planning are artistically rendered in classical literature.
