Development of a colloidal gold immunochromatographic test strip for detecting the smooth Brucella

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Brucellosis, a zoonotic infection caused by the Gram-negative Brucella (1), is primarily transmitted through direct contact with infected animals, their byproducts, or contaminants such as undercooked meat, unpasteurized milk, and infected secretions(2). This disease presents as a chronic and debilitating condition, featuring systemic symptoms like fever, headache, and chills, along with potential local complications like arthritis, endocarditis, and meningitis. The clinical presentation of brucellosis often lacks specificity, making it one of the most commonly overlooked bacterial diseases worldwide(3). Previous research has confirmed its widespread occurrence in over 170 regions and countries, with approximately 5 million new cases annually, presenting significant public health challenges(4). In China, brucellosis has been identified among animals in all provinces, with higher positivity rates in northern regions compared to southern areas(5). Recent years have seen increased trade activities, facilitating the movement of livestock products and potentially accelerating the spread of the disease, notably from north to south(6). Concurrently, human brucellosis is emerging as a significant public health issue in China, demanding urgent attention and intervention(7, 8).
