Disparities in electronic health record patient portal activation and use among people with hematological malignancies
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Electronic health record (EHR) portals can be used by patients to perform a number of tasks, including reviewing test results, communicating with providers, and scheduling appointments. Patient portals have been shown to improve patient-to-healthcare provider communication, transparency, patient involvement, treatment knowledge, and medication adherence. [1] However, not all patients benefit uniformly from patient portals. Medically underserved populations, based on age, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status (SES), and other factors, are less likely to be offered access to portals and utilize them less than their peers, but few studies have examined portal utilization within cancer populations [2–9].
