Abstract: Carbon materials are extensively utilized in cutting-edge fields such as energy, environment, and electronics due to their specific surface area, high conductivity, adjustable pore structure, exceptional surface chemical properties, and graphitized carbon structure. However, the current synthesis routes of carbon materials primarily rely on traditional fossil fuels, exacerbating the issue of climate change. Cellulose, a natural biomass found abundantly in nature, can serve as a sustainable carbon source. When converted into carbon materials, it even enables the achievement of negative carbon emissions, thereby offering an effective solution to the pressing issue of global warming. This review focuses on the progress of cellulose-derived carbon materials and nanocellulose graphene materials, as well as their applications in health monitoring, clean energy, and environmental purification. Furthermore, it delves into the opportunities and challenges for future development, providing new insights into the advancement of cellulose carbon materials.
