Abstract: In recent years, the intersection of public administration and project management has become crucial as governments tackle complex public projects (Hildreth, 2021).The book Projects, Government, and Public Policy explores this critical area, emphasizing its importance for national development. It argues that effective governmental project management is essential for implementing change initiatives and enhancing public sector efficiency. The book introduces a maturity model designed to advance public project management practices and strengthen the institutional capabilities of project managers within public sector organizations.By offering a structured and comprehensive approach, it provides invaluable insights for policymakers and project managers, aiming to optimize resource utilization, improve project outcomes, and refine governance practices within the public sector while addressing both current challenges and future needs. The book is organized into five parts, each contributing to a holistic view of public sector project management.Part 1 presents an in-depth analysis of the interface between public administration and project management. It puts into account the variances in structure and concepts between these two fields, thus underlining collaborative approaches are crucial to effectively manage public sector projects. The section proves that structured methodologies of project management only fruitfully make sense when individually tailored to the specificities of public sector initiatives, such as infrastructure projects or the deployment of IT systems. The key themes are the integration of project management practices with dynamic political processes, and the critical role of knowledge management in enhancing the outcome of projects. To this end, it provides an overview of project portfolio management strategies for optimal allocation of resources and aligning project objectives to achieve organizational goals and introduces different globally recognized project management frameworks such as LFA, ISO 21500, and SCRUM by explaining examples of application and added value in public administration.
