GNSS Coexistence Measurement Setup using a Vibrating Intrinsic Reverberation Chamber

Abstract: Wireless coexistence is essential in ensuring that multiple transmitting and receiving systems can operate in close proximity without electromagnetic interference. This is particularly crucial in dense environments where electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) plays a significant role in the performance and reliability of systems such as Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). ETSI 303413 describes a conducted measurement technique for evaluating the ability of a GNSS receiver to selectively filter and process wanted signals while mitigating interference from adjacent frequency bands. ETSI 303 413 describes -only as an alternative- a radiated measurement technique as well, which employs -among others- an anechoic chamber, a GNSS signal generator, a blocking signal generator, amplifiers and a dedicated filter. This paper introduces a novel measurement approach using a vibrating intrinsic reverberation chamber (VIRC) and a GNSS repeater for making use of real-time GNSS signals. By introducing these two elements, it offers a more dynamic and representative interference environment and it goes beyond the limitations of the ETSI 303413 measurement technique as it can be used for any kind of GNSS coexistence tests and not only for adjacent frequency bands.
