Abstract: The objective of the present study is to understand how the bacteria that cause the disease is transmitted and then understand how the disease can be treated, diagnosed and prevented. The main reason for not adequately treating syphilis is due to the lack of knowledge on the part of the population regarding the form of contagion and transmission of the disease, especially pregnant women who can transmit the disease vertically to the fetus. The methodology used was a systematic review and the databases that were consulted were BVS, LILAC and Medline using the descriptors: pregnant, syphilis and Brazil and studies from the last 5 years were used. Finally, it can be concluded that it is important to provide adequate education and raise awareness among the population about the form of contagion, how the diagnosis is made and why it needs to be done as quickly as possible and the importance of preventing the disease.
