Transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus: review of author’s experiences and observations
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a congenital cardiac defect (CCD) and comprises 8% to 10% of all CCDs. Following the description of surgical closure by Gross and colleagues in the 1930s, it has become a standard mode of therapy and remained so until the description of transcatheter techniques to occlude PDA by Porstmann, Rashkind and their associates in the late 1960s. This review paper discusses transcatheter occlusion techniques with buttoned devices, Giantuco coils , and Amplatzer devices with particular attention to author’s contributions to these methods.
