Abstract: Perioperative nurses provide dynamic care across a variety of clinical settings to patients with different backgrounds and medical needs.1 Historically, perioperative nurses have always needed an in-depth knowledge of surgical anatomy, the physiological changes that occur during surgery, and the various instruments involved in surgical procedures.1 However, nurses today also contend with various changes, including innovations such as hybrid ORs, robot-assisted surgeries, and other modern technologies; a growing diversity of patients; and staffing challenges that were exacerbated by the pandemic. Perioperative nurses meet these challenges while complying with regulatory requirements and leveraging a holistic care model to provide age-appropriate, ethical, and culturally sensitive care.1 To honor their dedication to patient care, Perioperative Nurses Week is celebrated annually the second week of November. This year, it will be observed from November 10 to 16.2 Figure 1. Perioperative nurses possess a unique skill set.
