Abstract: Adolescence is a period of change that can affect mental health if not managed properly. Developing emotional intelligence skills helps to experience greater well-being and fewer emotional symptoms. Of particular interest is the role of classroom climate in fostering these resources in the school context. The present research examines the association between emotional intelligence, emotional symptomatology and subjective well-being, considering the mediating role of school climate. A total of 356 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 16 (M= 13.52; 58% female) participated in the study, who completed the following self-report instruments: Escala Rasgo de Metaconocimientos sobre Estados Emocionales (TMMS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), Questionnaire to Assess School Social Climate (CECSCE), Positive and Negative Experiences Scale (SPANE), Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale for Youth (DASS-Y). The results showed that high levels of emotional intelligence, together with a favourable school climate, have a positive impact on subjective well-being and have a negative influence on symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress. Therefore, these results provide relevant data for the design of programmes that promote emotional well-being in adolescents.
