Abstract: The research objective is to analyse the competences of the President of the Republic of Macedonia in the sphere of external relations of the state. The determination of the formal prerequisites shaping the role of the Head of State in the sphere of Macedonia’s relations with other states and international organisations requires an analysis of the constitutional matter and other normative acts, with regard to the constitutional position of the President, as well as the competency reality. For this purpose, the provisions of the 1991 Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia and the Law on Foreign Affairs will be analysed, as well as the analysis of the practice of this function by successive officeholders.
