Comparison of the Petrophysical and Reservoir Heterogeneity of the Mauddud Formation in Halfaya and Ratawi Oil Fields, Southern Iraq
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This study was conducted for the Mauddud Formation in the Ratawi and Halfaya Oil Fields. Well logs are currently being used to analyze the petrophysical characteristics of the Mauddud Formation. The interpretation model has been established, and the interpretation parameters have been confirmed through several methods. Based on the interpretation data. The Mauddud Formation in the Halfaya Oilfield primarily comprises limestone and dolomite, while the Ratawi Oilfield has lesser amounts of dolomite with the domination of limestone. The shale volume of the formation is low. The porosity distribution of the formation in the Halfaya Oilfield ranges from 15% to 20%, while the water saturation distribution ranges from 30% to 75%. The shale volume of the formation is low. The porosity of the Mauddud Formation in the Ratawi Oilfield distribution ranges from 8% to 20%, while the water saturation distribution ranges from 10% to 65%. The Vsh cut-off value is 25% in both the Ratawi and Halfaya oilfields—the porosity cutoff of the oilfields is 8%. The cutoff value for SW in this area is 55%; using Petrel and Techlog software, the ELAN interpretation method calculates the content of multiple minerals and fluid components. Additionally, six wells in the Mauddud Formation were interpreted and represented by two wells in the Halfaya Oilfield and four in the Ratawi Oilfields. In the Ratawi Oilfield, seven units were recognized, named Mu-1 to Mu-7, while the Halfaya Oilfield was divided into six units named Mu-1 to Mu-6 based on log response and interpretations.
