Photodynamic therapy in the treatment of periodontal diseases. Literature review

Abstract: Periodontal diseases affect about 90% of the adult population, but the treatment regimens for this pathology are different, with varying degrees of effectiveness. One of the causes of inflammatory phenomena is the microbial factor. In some cases, there is a need for antimicrobial prescriptions, which, against the background of growing antibiotic resistance, becomes a problem. This article describes the possibilities of using such a method of influencing periodontal pathogens as photodynamic therapy. The main conclusions of studies on the effectiveness of PDT in inflammatory periodontal diseases are presented.
