Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The poem by academician of Greek and Roman literature Ch.F. Graefe, dedicated to the centenary of the Imperial Academy of Sciences, became a highlight of the anniversary events. It was written in Greek (and also translated by the author into German) and was intended for the President of the Academy of Sciences S.S. Uvarov, whom Graefe had been mentoring in classical disciplines for many years. A poetic translation of the poem into Russian was prepared for the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The article examines the main plot lines of the poem: a eulogy to the imperial family, a review of the collections of the Kunstkamera museum, a hymn to St. Petersburg and admiration for the power of the Neva.
