Francis’ Papacy Analyzed from a Historical Perspective A Catholicism for the Twenty-First Century?
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: In this article I analyze the main innovations of Francis' papacy from the point of view of the history of contemporary Catholicism, both in the field of social doctrine and in the government of the Church. Secondly, I study his political strategies, which I define as “inverted gatopardism.” In my opinion, these strategies have helped Bergoglio control the opposition of traditionalist and conservative sectors, as well as internal tensions.
