Hydrocarbonization of the pigeon pea husk as an alternative to increase the biosorption of the industrial dye yellow tartrazine from aqueous solutions

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Tartrazine Yellow is a synthetic dye that is part of industrial effluents and can harm the environment when disposed of incorrectly. Biosorbents are alternatives to reduce the cost of the adsorption technique and add value to agricultural wastes. This work reports an investigation regarding the hydrocarbonization process effect on the adsorption capacity of Pigeon Pea Husk, for the removal of the dye from aqueous solutions. The adsorbents were treated chemically and were characterized. The kinetics and adsorption isotherms were investigated and the results showed that the pseudo second-order and Langmuir were the best models, respectively. The hydrocarbonization process increase the adsorption of the adsorbent from 1.54 mg g-1 to 3.60 mg g-1. The increase was even greater in the basic medium, reaching the highest adsorption capacity of 4.78 mg g-1. The hydrocarbonization process was demonstrated to be a sustainable and feasible path to increase the adsorption capacity.
