Entre dois mundos: um exame da recepção de ideias da Revolução Francesa em Raízes do Brasil
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: There is no doubt that the Enlightenment principles of liberty, equality and fraternity have been very present in the history of several Ibero-American nations. In the case of Brazil, however, the state, guided by these noble ideals, has often engendered their opposite. The lack of certain essential services and guarantees for citizens in the Brazilian state is undeniable. Knowing the importance of such principles in Brazil, the aim is to understand how Sérgio Buarque de Holanda uses certain emblematic concepts of Enlightenment philosophy and what role they played, in his perception, in Brazilian political formation.
