Type: article
Abstract: Multifunctional nanoparticles are able to achieve multiple purposes such as imaging and therapy simultaneously through modification with multiple functional units and have significant advantages in cancer theranostics. Among the multifunctional nanoparticles, W 18 O 49 NP-mediated multimodality theranostics are restricted by their undesirable tumor selectivity. In this study, we develop multifunctional iRGD–Pt–Iodine–W 18 O 49 NPs (i–P–I–W) based on W 18 O 49 NPs, which integrates computed tomography (CT) imaging, PA imaging, chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy (PDT), and photothermal therapy (PTT) properties in a single targeting manner. Due to the presence of an iRGD peptide, tungsten, and iodine, these iRGD–Pt–Iodine–W 18 O 49 NPs exhibit targeting contrasting ability for CT and PA imaging. Combined with cisplatin, the iRGD–Pt–Iodine–W 18 O 49 NPs display remarkable targeting synergistic antitumor effects in vitro and in vivo. Meanwhile, iRGD–Pt–Iodine–W 18 O 49 NPs are capable of alleviating the cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity at the administration dosage. Therefore, iRGD–Pt–Iodine–W 18 O 49 NPs are expected to be used in targeting CT/PA dual-imaging guided side effects relieving chemotherapy/PDT/PTT multimodality precise therapy of gastric cancer.
