Non-linear Programming Method for Studying Sleep Behavior During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This study aims to investigate the quality of work during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the relationship between working hours and participants' sleep quality.Furthermore, the study sought to develop a non-linear programming model to optimize the time distribution between work, sleep, and personal tasks, finding the best solution that represents this relationship. The methodology adopted was experimental, descriptive, and transversal, based on a previous project. The study involved the participation of 801 volunteers from different regions of Brazil. The instruments used included questions about demographics, mental health, sleep quality, and productivity.Excel and the Lagrange method were used to process the data to calculate the variables. The analysis revealed a disparity between planned and executed working hours, with many professionals working more hours than planned.Additionally, there has been a significant increase in sleep irregularity during the pandemic.Through the non-linear programming model, it was identified that adequate sleep was compromised and excessive workload negatively impacted the time available for personal activities. This study contributes to the understanding of the challenges faced by professionals during the pandemic and offers valuable insights for improving working conditions in different sectors. The discussions highlight the importance of optimizing the working day to increase productivity and promote a healthy work-life balance. The results suggest that policies and regulations must evolve to guarantee these benefits to all workers, regardless of professional segment.
