An open-source user interface for real-time ultra-fast solving of electric fields around segmented deep brain stimulation electrodes
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) programming protocols have traditionally relied on trial-and-error methods, requiring up to 36 hours of testing in the first-year post-implant [1]. Even with a standard four-electrode lead configuration, clinicians face over 13,000 potential programming combinations not exceeding the charge density limit set by the FDA [2]. This complexity is further compounded with the advent of next-generation directional DBS leads, which feature segmented electrodes capable of directing current for asymmetric neuronal stimulation [3,4].
