Maintenance Methods and Strategies for Existing Bridges in China
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: In China, bridges constructed in the past century have deteriorated due to environmental exposure and increasing loads, necessitating attention from researchers on assessment, maintenance, and reinforcement to ensure safety. Appropriate design and construction techniques are key to improving load-bearing capacity and extending service life. This paper summarizes China's bridge challenges, introduces the development of bridges in China since the 20th century and visual inspection methods, and outlines strengthening techniques for bridge superstructures and substructures. Furthermore, the paper concludes with a discussion of future research directions, highlighting the importance of continued efforts to ensure the safety, reliability, and longevity of these vital transportation structures.
