Abstract: The article examines theoretical aspects of polarity in International Relations. The research identifies the features and limitations of the regional system, using Inter-American system as an example of a pole. The author demonstrates the significance of the USA in the formation of this system and its probable position in the international arena compared to other potential poles, using a model of geopolitical potential. The article highlights Brazil’s special role in all relevant configurations; without this country, the Inter-American system significantly loses influence, which explains Washington’s distinct attitude toward Brazil.
