What is Roman Reconciliation?
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This paper examines in how far modern conceptualisations of peace and reconciliation map onto ancient Roman ideas of pax Romana and Roman reconciliation. Some modern definitions of reconciliation insist on mercy and forgiveness as part of reconciliation; comparing modern with ancient ideas of reconciliation as showcased in this special issue the author suggests to consider Roman reconciliation as coexistence rather than reconciliation in the modern sense.
