Historical memory of the academician of medicine Z. V. Ermolyeva: Commemorating the Soviet microbiologist

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The study aims to identify the specifics and nature of the commemoration processes related to the Soviet microbiologist, academician of medicine Z. V. Ermolyeva (1898-1974), who obtained the first domestic antibiotic penicillin-crustosin. The article analyzes the commemorative practices aimed at preserving the historical memory of the outstanding Russian scholar. The scientific novelty of the study is due to the lack of research devoted to the consideration of the process of memorializing Z. V. Ermolyeva, as well as due to a demand that has arisen in Russian society for the formation of a heroic-patriotic paradigm of Russian history in national memory. Z. V. Ermolyeva spent her childhood and youth in the southern regions of the country, where she studied at the university and began her professional journey and scientific career. A significant part of the scientist’s biography is connected with Moscow, where she lived and conducted scientific research. The main processes of memorializing the scientist’s name in these regions were analyzed. As a result, the main directions in preserving the historical memory of Z. V. Ermolyeva have been identified and the objects that serve as “places of memory” in this commemorative practice have been reconstructed.
