A Tale of Two Apexes: Diagnostic Challenges and the Role of Multimodality Imaging in Left Ventricular Apex Anomalies
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Echocardiography is the most widely used cardiovascular imaging modality, allowing a comprehensive evaluation of cardiac morphology and function in most cardiovascular diseases. Phenotypic characterization for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment is usually achieved using routine echocardiographic windows and measurements. However, rare presentations and variants can be overlooked if one focuses solely on standard measurements. It deserves attention and refinement to identify these unusual findings with a broad spectrum of clinical relevance, which may eventually be characterized using advanced cardiac imaging modalities such as cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and cardiac computed tomography (CCT).
