Big-Data Analysis of Daily Climate Control Strategies and Crop Growth Indicators in High-Yielding Greenhouse Strawberry Farms

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Digital technologies, including big-data and sensor technology, have the potential to enhance crop yield and production efficiency in smart greenhouses. However, challenges remain in analyzing big-data effectively and applying it to data-driven cultivation, particularly in identifying specific values for on-site greenhouse control systems. To identify the optimal hourly climate setpoint for each crop developmental stage, this study analyzes the longitudinal climate, crop growth, and yield datasets from greenhouse farms in Korea. We observed that high-yielding farms maintained higher temperatures after sunset during the cold season, reaching 13 °C at 18:00, which was 1.0-2.2°C warmer than middle-and low-yielding farms.Their yield increase rate during January was also higher, at 1.3 kg/m² per month, compared to 0.8 and 0.5 kg/m² for the other groups. This study provides growth stage-specific hourly temperature setpoints and crop growth assessment references that can be practically applied, based on data from high-yielding farms.
