Abstract: It is a reflection on the first editions of Marvel Comics' House of X and Powers of X, by Jonathan Hickman, drawing from authors such as Flusser and Erick Felinto. Underlying this discussion is an examination of American comics as both artwork and product, viewed through the lens of the culture industry as described by Theodore Adorno, and the logic of technical reproducibility according to Walter Benjamin. In accordance to the Critical Theory, comic books are part of a structural consumerist web inherent to the culture industry, in a relationship in which man becomes the object of his own creation. However, it is posited here that within the intricacies of this mechanism there are gaps for bursts of creativity, especially in the science fiction genre, where dreamlike whispers about tomorrow leap from the author’s mind and crystallize in the contemporary imagination.
