Sponge Cities in The Fight Against Climate
Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: People have struggled with nature in a period that covers from the very beginning of their existence to the present. While maintaining their basic survival needs such as shelter and nutrition in harmony with nature, the balance between nature and humanity is deteriorating day by day in line with the problems and needs that arise with human development. The most important factor whose balance has deteriorated is the climate. Climate influences people's harmony with the natural environment, diversifying their social and economic activities, and meeting basic needs such as shelter and nutrition. The deterioration of the balance of the climate and the change in the climatic conditions in the areas where people live have resulted in certain problems and some solutions to these problems. Drought and floods caused by increased precipitation are the primary issues, and rainwater harvesting and sponge cities aimed at bringing precipitation to the soil are the leading solutions. Within the scope of this study, it is intended to examine the floods and droughts that occur as a result of climate change using a literature review, as well as to interpret rainwater harvesting and sponge cities, which are intended to be solutions to these problems using a literature review.
