Abstract: India is known as the "land of farmers" since the majority of its citizens work in agriculture either directly or indirectly. It is not incorrect to claim that 'Indian farmers' are the backbone of the economy, and farmers are truly Mother India's loving children.Growing a wide range of crops is known as farming. India has a diversified culture, with 720 native languages and about 22 main languages spoken there. India is home to people of several religious backgrounds, including Hindu, Christian, Islamic, and Sikh and they are engaged in various occupations, but agriculture is the main occupation. An agricultural worker who raises live plants or animals is known as a farmer. They might generate food, animal products, or raw resources. A farmer is in charge of overseeing farms, ranches, greenhouses, nurseries, and other businesses that produce agricultural products. Farmers are involved in planting, cultivating, and finishing post-harvest tasks, depending on the type of farm.Small-holder farmers are vital for India's agriculture and rural economy. Small-holder farmers - defined as those marginal and sub-marginal farm households that own or/and cultivate less than 2.0 hectare of land - constitute about 78 per cent of the country's farmers. These small-holders owned only 33 per cent of the total cultivated land, their contribution to national grain production was nonetheless 41 per cent.Their contribution to household food security and poverty alleviation is thus disproportionately high - and is increasing. Moreover, as the national population increases, so does the number of smallholdings. (Agricultural Census,2011). Without a question, farmers are the foundation of our nation. They are the ones who work hard to produce the necessities that are most essential to human survival. It doesn't really matter how wealthy one is;what counts is whether or not they have food on their plate.
