Abstract: Aims] This study aimed to clarify the correlation between blood adiponectin level and visceral fat area in male collegiate athletes.[Methods] The participants were 90 male collegiate students who belonged to an athletic club (The athlete group) and 12 students who had no exercise habits (The control group).Body weight, lean body mass, and body fat percentage were measured using the BIA method with a body composition analyzer (Inbody 730, 770, S10).Visceral fat area and waist circumference were measured using the abdominal BIA method with a visceral fat analyzer (Panasonic, EW-FA90).Blood parameters were to measure 15 items, including adiponectin.[Results] The athlete group showed no significance compared to the control group in body weight, body fat percentage, visceral fat area, waist circumference, and blood adiponectin level. The correlations were not significant between blood adiponectin level and visceral fat area in the athlete group (r = -0.14, p = 0.19), but they were strongly negative in the control group (r = -0.80,p < 0.01).Furthermore, in contrast to the results for the control group, it showed no correlation between blood adiponectin level and body fat percentage (r = -0.06,p = 0.60) and waist circumference (r = -0.20,p = 0.06) in the athlete group.[Conclusions] This study found that the blood adiponectin level didn't decrease with increased visceral fat area in male collegiate athletes.
