Abstract: This work investigates a new method of linear motor position measurement based on matching captured images with sample images to improve the measurement accuracy of the position of the linear motor. First, a high-precision sample library is constructed to store the 1D signals of the target source image acquired by a line-scan camera at equal intervals. Second, a sample library matching method based on velocity estimation is proposed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the sample library matching process. In this method, the moving velocity of the mover is estimated by using the least square method. Thereafter, the motion function of the mover is derived to estimate the position of the mover at the time of image capture. The specific position of the sample image with the highest correlation with the reference image in the sample database is determined through the normalized cross correlation (NCC) algorithm. Third, a sub-pixel measurement algorithm based on the NCC is proposed to measure the displacement between the captured and the sample images. This algorithm can realize the directional measurement of the captured and sample images, calibrate the matching results of the sample library, and further improve the measurement accuracy of this method. Finally, the system calibration coefficients are combined to obtain the displacement of the actuator from the starting point of the motion at the moment of image shooting. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively realize the position measurement of the mover and meet the requirements of high precision and real-time.
