Assessment of Torque Vectoring Controllers Performance through Subjective-Objective Ratings
Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: With the increasing demand for enhanced vehicle performance and handling dynamics, torque vectoring has emerged as a fundamental technology in modern automotive engineering. Consequently, several control logics have been designed through the years and their performance has been assessed through objective metrics quantifying how the controlled vehicle is able to track a reference for its lateral dynamics. Nevertheless, this evaluation approach is rather limited because it is not accounting for the feedback from an actual driver. Thus, this paper addresses this critical gap in the evaluation of torque vectoring controllers by including drivers’ subjective evaluations through Driver-in-the-Loop simulations. Indeed, the research comprehensively analyzes both objective metrics and subjective driver assessments, examining the impact of different torque vectoring control strategies on vehicle dynamics. By correlating quantitative metrics with human perception, this integrated approach enhances the understanding of torque vectoring control strategies' effectiveness and their real-world implications on driver satisfaction.
