Quality criteria and standards for virtual education: keys for reconsideration in the Chilean regulatory framework

Abstract: The purpose of this brief communication was to comparatively analyze technical documents on quality assurance in virtual education, to generate recommendations for reconsideration in the Chilean regulatory framework. From a qualitative approach, four instruments of criteria and standards on the matter are analyzed, in comparison with the guidelines that were in force in Chile between 2017 and 2021. After the documentary analysis, it is concluded that the keys to reconsider an update, or to create a new version, are limited to the instructional design applied to virtual programs, the development of digital competencies in teachers and the access, permanence and graduation processes of students.
