Reduce energy consumption by using glass fiber reinforced concrete

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Buildings make up the highest energy consumption. The challenge of reducing energy consumption has been focused mainly on residential buildings. The economic constraints faced by both homeowners and new construction constitute other barriers in this area. The latest building materials and advanced technologies can overcome some of these barriers and facilitate the rapid progress of energy efficiency in the residential building sector. Glass fiber reinforced concrete is gaining increasing attention because it can help reduce energy consumption in the residential sector. This material has many additional benefits, such as durability, high strength and low environmental impact. This paper focuses on the changes that occur in glass fiber reinforced concrete from a mechanical and thermal point of view. Concrete samples are made strictly according to systemic standards and under careful experimental conditions. This rigorous process ensures reliability and accuracy. Our results provide concrete evidence of the benefits of using glass fiber in concrete. We found that the addition of glass fiber by 0% to 1% reduces the bulk density between 1% to 4.75%, increases the compressive strength from 3.2 MPa to 5.3 MPa with an increase of 65.6%, and reduces the value of thermal conductivity 2.6% to 9.5% while increasing thermal insulation by 14%. These findings underscore the importance of using fiber in the field of construction.
