Abstract: The most common pathophysiological etiology of traumatic subdural hematoma is the rupture of bridging veins that drain the venous blood from the brain parenchyma into the superior sagittal sinus. Treatment of choice for such a hematoma would be craniotomy and evacuation. Opening dura in a stellate fashion during in acute traumatic subdural hematoma surgery might decrease the risk of added injury to bridging veins and decrease possible morbidity due to brain edema.
