Abstract: This year marks the 160th anniversary of the original Geneva Convention and the 75th anniversary of the four Geneva Conventions of 1949. Together, they have come to embody our common humanity. Alas, recent history teaches us that nothing can be taken for granted – whether people's basic rights or peace.
