Type: article
Abstract: Stalag I B Kommando Prostken was a subcamp of Stalag I B Hohenstein (Olsztynek), which was established in the fall of 1943 in Bogusze near Prostki. The camp infrastructure was created during the imprisonment of Soviet prisoners of war, civilians from the USSR, and Polish Jews, and was later used to imprison over 10,000 Italian soldiers. The camp conditions were difficult due to hunger, cold, lack of hygiene, humidity, and the brutality of the German staff. Most Italians were deported deep into the Third Reich in October and November 1943. About 460 Italian soldiers may be buried in the former camp cemetery.
